“Why do I write?” is a deceptively difficult question to answer. While some easy responses such as, “to pass my class,” come to mind, I believe that my own motivation runs deeper than this. While I can never fully capture the workings of my own mind, writing allows me to put my ideas and stories into a tangible form. Writing liberates me from my own emotions when I put on paper my thoughts and worries. Writing allows me a place to express myself in any way I please without enduring the judgment of others.
While I have many reasons for writing, my motivation is derived from a simple desire to put into words what I’m too afraid to say out loud.
Okay, this is seriously beautiful. I definitely look forward to reading your future posts. This is written so gorgeously.
ReplyDeleteOn another note. It's interesting that you went into deeper thought than just writing for an assignment. Not a lot of people recognize when they need to get out of that mindset and look beyond what they see. It's very cool that you do, and that you use writing as sort of an outlet for words you know need to be said.
I definitely know how it feels great to liberate yourself from heldback feelings. and i thought you portrayed this in a very nice way.
ReplyDeleteCollette- I dig that writing gives you the power to say the things you can't say out loud. What is one of those things?
ReplyDeletePS- Are all the drawings on here yours? You write and draw? What else are you into?!
Without even saying that it's your passion, you make it felt through your writing. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the positive feedback, everyone! I was a little wary about posting this, but I'm glad you liked it.

My writing usually goes one of two ways. I like to write about (random) topics that I find important, such as the existence of God, gay marriage, social equality, etc. Sometimes my writing takes a more narrative turn, and I write about my thoughts on daily events or people I meet.
Yes, all the artwork on here is mine. I mainly draw portraits using graphite, my preferred medium. I absolutely love the band Muse, so I usually end up drawing one of the band members.
Along with writing and drawing, I also play piano. I haven't taken lessons since 8th grade, but I play a few older pieces occasionally.
When I have a few free hours, I make home films with a friend and both of our siblings. They're usually pretty cr*ppy quality, though, since we operate on little to no budget.
I also took up an interest in running when i joined Casa's cross country team freshman year. This will be my third year on the team, as well as my first year on varsity and as captain.
P.s. If you're interested, you can find some more of my artwork here. http://collettie.deviantart.com/#/d3dj818
I feel the exact same way, and I think we're all more courageous with words on a page than with the words we say aloud. I love how you wrote this and expressed yourself, and I believe you are a wonderful writer and can't wait to read more (:
